DjoynaMagatte Ndiaye was born 1974 in Louga/Senegal as son of a griot family. He was raised in best family tradition and learned to gather and maintain the traditional music of his homeland and played percussion, sang and danced at many occasions. He was teached by his parents until his 20th birthday and then became a griot himself in the reknown “Cercle de la Jeunesse de Louga”. This group united the best artists of Louga and they were awarded several years as best traditional group of Senegal! He moved to Fribourg in Switzerland in 1994 as a percussion teacher and now lives near Basel, playing with a full band of usually seven artists or with a small trio line-up.
